Romania belongs to several migration corridors.  During the two major migration seasons of early spring and late summer one may observe the great diversity of species gathered in immense populations of thousands of specimens.

Birds have created the Danube Deltas fame from the beginning of the 20th century. Ornithologists have identified more than 300 species catalogued in 5 main types: European (the white-tailed eagle, the nightingale, the seagull), Mediterranean (the pelican the largest colony of Europe, the pygmy cormorant more than half of the worlds population, the heron), Siberian (the singing swan), Chinese (the egret, the mute swan), Mongolian (the bald vulture). Among this rich bird population there are several species protected by law and declared either white or polychromatic monuments (pelicans, egrets, swans, sea eagles, avocets, etc).
